Posted by bucktail on May 15, 2012 in Uncategorized |

Using the Super Teacher Tools website, you will create a custom review game modeled on the popular game show “Who Wants to be a Millionaire.” You can link to the builder here.

Your questions will all need to be about things we have learned or done in this class and should focus on web 2.0.

Try out a completed example of the game here.

Road Trip!

Posted by bucktail on April 19, 2012 in Uncategorized |

You and your friends have decided to take a road trip to one of the following cities this summer:

  • Seattle, WA
  • San Francisco, CA
  • Los Angeles, CA
  • Phoenix, AZ
  • Austin, TX
  • St. Louis, MO
  • New Orleans, LA
  • Miami, FL
  • Chicago, IL
  • Denver, CO

You will use a variety of web tools to help plan this trip.

You have fourteen days for this trip and must visit 5 cities along your route – which is both out and back, not one way. You will use Google Maps to plan out your route.  You will need to take a screen shot of the completed map and place it in a new Road Trip page in your blog.

Once the route has been planned, you will need to create a log of what you would do each day and what attractions and activities you will complete in each city (make a link to the official visitors website for each major city).  This can just be a day-by-day list in your new page, but must include miles traveled, time spent traveling, and attractions (with links to their sites) and their prices.  You will use the internet to locate this information.

After you have planned out your stops and attractions, you will create a mixbook with a page for each major city and what you plan to see there.

Finally, you will use big huge labs to create advertising media you “saw” that got you excited about those cities or attractions.  You will need one for each city – a postcard, a billboard, etc.

All of this will be added to your Road Trip page in the appropriate places as defined by the rubric.

SchoolTube

Posted by bucktail on April 2, 2012 in Uncategorized |

Each of you will create a short “news” cast dealing with a subject matter of your choice.  You will use the Flip cameras to film, and iMovie to create the completed newscast – complete with credits, sound effects and manipulations.

Once the movies have been completed and exported, we will upload them to SchoolTube, a safe, education friendly video service similar to YouTube.

Finally, we wil embed the videos into our blogs and make a regular post about using the technology and tools to create an upload this video onto the web.

Google Forms

Posted by bucktail on March 19, 2012 in Uncategorized |

You will use Google Forms to write a 10 question survey on a subject matter of your choosing.  This survey is to be geared to your peers, and will be anonymous; this means you can make it about subjects that are potentially controversial (aka teenage drinking, etc), but you will need to have me approve it if you do before you being working on the survey.  You will need to publish this survey in a page on your blog and have 25 people complete it.  Your survey needs to be completed and posted into a page by Wednesday.  You will need to have me approve the survey before you officially post it in your blog.

You will need to use each question type at least once.  There are seven question types total, which means you will need to use three of them more than once.  You may not just reuse multiple choice three additional times.

You will post the results and your experience with Google Forms in a regular blog post once you have received the 25 responses.

BeFunky vs Picnik

Posted by bucktail on March 6, 2012 in Uncategorized |

BeFunky and Picnik are photo editing sites similar to Big Huge Labs.  Your assignment for today is to go to BeFunky and Picnik experiment with their interfaces.  There is no requirement to sign-up for an account to use either of these site, simply click get started at the main page. From there you can upload one of your pictures from iPhoto (use one with no effects on it), or use one of the three sample photos provided (in Picnik like I did).  Once you have selected a picture, the site will place your image in the editor and require you to “select a tool to continue.”  Start with edit and then work your way through the different tools (photo effects, artsy effects, framer, goodies, text editor).  You can switch tools by using the create drop down menu above the editor.  Once you have created an image you are happy with, save it to your desktop and then upload it into your media library.  You will need to include an image created at each site in your post.

Here is an example of a image edited using the BeFunky site (you can insert your image at full size if you like as I have):

Once you have played with both site, you will write a post in which you compare and contrast the two and tell the reader which one you prefer.  You will still need to provide detailed information about how the sites work and your experience with them.

Your poster will need to include the following items:

  • A title that clearly communicates what your poster is about (in a text box)
  • At least five facts about your issue (that are linked to the websites where you found them!)
  • At least two images and one video you have found on the Internet that have to do with your issue (include fx and or other manipulations such as frame for these)
  • At least three graphics from the program incorporated into the poster (include fx and or other manipulations such as frames for these)

Prezi Timeline

Posted by bucktail on February 17, 2012 in Uncategorized |

Each of you will need to create a time line of the history of the Internet in a Prezi presentation.  You will need to have 15 signifigant events from the initial creation of  computers and the infrastructure for the Internet through current day advances.  For each of the events or milestones you include you will need to have: a title and date for the event, a description of the event and why it is important, and a picture to go along with it.  Be thinking about how you want to create your timeline along the multi-level structure that Prezi allows, and not along a liner progression.

There are many good timelines about the internet already online, so start your day by searching for one, or more, you could use to find important events to include in yours (do not limit yourself to just the info on these websites though, as many do not include more recent events like the emergence of Facebook or web 2.0).

You may use Photo Booth to take pictures of yourself to use in the PSA or find school appropriate images online.  Scripts must be approved before you begin recording your tracks and pictures must be school appropriate.  You can approach this assignment from a funny or serious angle as long as the message is correct.

See below for information about the do’s and don’ts of internet safety.

This assignment is worth 20 points and needs to be posted into your blog by Wednesday.

Personal Information (OK to share):
  • your age
  • whether you are male or female

Strong passwords help protect your computer, your files, and your school and online accounts from being tampered with.

You can avoid many hassles by following these security tips:

  • Only your parents should know your password.
  • Never give a password to anyone else—not even your friends.
  • Don’t use passwords that are easy to guess—like your nickname or your pet’s name.
  • Never use any private identity information in your password.
  • Don’t use a word in the dictionary as a password.
  • Create passwords with at least eight characters.
  • Use combinations of letters, numbers, and symbols, which are harder to crack than just words.
  • Change your password regularly—at least every six months.

Posted by bucktail on February 2, 2012 in Media Sharing |

Big Huge Labs is a website that helps you do fun things with your images.  You can create motivational posters, id badges and so much more.

As a class we will create a motivational poster.  You will then have the rest of today and tomorrow to create four more enhanced images to include in a blog post about this site.

You are strongly encouraged to create an account at this site to store your work.  I think you will find that you would use this site in the future as it has links to facebook, flickr and more social networking sites that allow you to post media.

Voki for Blog

Posted by bucktail on February 22, 2011 in Media Sharing |

You are to create a Voki for your blog.  We will be posting the completed product in a widget on our blog pages to use as an interactive introduction to ourselves and our blogs.

You will need to create an avatar that represents you (that is school appropriate) and pick a background and accessories to personalize the player further.  Today you wil use the text to talk feature to record a voiceover in which you introduce yourself generally and give a brief overview of web 2.0 and what we will be doing with it.  Eventually, you will record a short voice-over in GarageBand to upload to the Voki to replace the type to text.

Once you have completed your Voki assignment, you will create a post about using Voki according to the guidelines set forth on the Post Guidelines page.
